In which direction can polycarbonate sheet be bent?

The sheet may only be bent so that the curve of the bend runs parallel to the direction of the cells. Otherwise, the cells may become deformed and the UV protection may be damaged, which can significantly reduce the mechanical strength of the sheet.

Why can’t polycarbonate be installed perpendicular to the slope?

The temperature difference between the inside and outside of the cells, especially in the morning and evening, causes condensation to form inside the cells. The condensed water drains away by gravity if the cells run in the direction of the slope. If they don’t, persistent condensation and even algae growth can occur.

Is a support spacing of 1000 mm sufficient, or is closer support needed?

For 10 mm thick sheets, the manufacturer recommends supports every 700 mm, while for sheets 16 mm or thicker, 1000 mm is sufficient.

Can installation errors be the reason water or condensation gets into the cells?

It may indicate installation errors, such as missing end sealing tapes or unsuitable end profiles. Even with professional installation, some condensation may appear in the morning and evening, which is considered normal.

Is it true that multiwall polycarbonate sometimes creaks or pops?

This can happen with poor installation, for example due to a missing base profile, omitted expansion gaps or overtightened fixing screws. Careful installation prevents this.

In what sizes can polycarbonate be purchased?

The standard factory width of polycarbonate sheets is 2100 mm and the length is 7000 mm. We cut the sheets to size according to customer requirements.

Is a rubber gasket needed at every support point?

A rubber gasket must be used at every support where the polycarbonate sheet touches the supporting structure, unless there is an H-profile above it.

How can I tell which side of the polycarbonate is UV-protected?

10 and 16 mm sheets with an X6 structure are UV-protected on both sides. In other cases, the UV-protected side is marked on the protective film: 'this side out'.

What is Exolon® multi UV multiwall sheet?

Exolon® multi UV multiwall panels, also known as multiwall sheets, are building elements made of polycarbonate or other plastics. They feature a honeycomb or tunnel structure that gives them extra stability and strength. Exolon® multi UV sheets are lightweight, durable and have good insulating properties. Multiwall Exolon® multi UV polycarbonate sheets: a durable choice for roofing greenhouses, conservatories and patios. Exolon® multi UV multiwall sheets are often used outdoors for roofing, glazing or facades, for example on patio roofs, covered parking spaces, conservatories, greenhouses or as partition walls. They are available in various sizes, thicknesses and colors to suit your needs.

Which Exolon® multi UV multiwall polycarbonate is suitable for roofing greenhouses, conservatories, patio covers or carports?

Several types of Exolon® multi UV multiwall panels are suitable for building a greenhouse, patio roof or conservatory, as they are both translucent and thermally insulating. At Exolon Group, we make our multiwall panels from polycarbonate. Advantages of Exolon® multi UV polycarbonate multiwall sheets: high impact and break resistance, UV protection, good thermal insulation, light weight, attractive appearance, durability, and availability in various thicknesses and structures.

What is the difference between the various types of Exolon® multi UV multiwall sheets?

The main difference between tunnel-structured multiwall Exolon® multi UV sheets and multiwall sheets with a special geometry is the number and structure of the air chambers in the sheets. Twin-wall sheets have two parallel walls, which provide better thermal insulation and strength. Multiwall sheets have three or more parallel walls, offering even greater insulation and stability. The HX geometry provides high load-bearing capacity and greater thermal insulation.

How do you cut multiwall polycarbonate sheets?

To cut Exolon® multi UV multiwall sheets, place the sheet on a smooth, clean surface and wear safety glasses and gloves. Measure the cutting line and mark it on the protective film. Use a suitable tool, such as a utility knife, jigsaw or circular saw, depending on the thickness of the sheet. Cut slowly and evenly, then finish the edges with sandpaper or a file. Remove the protective film only after the work is complete.

When does water collect in Exolon® multi UV multiwall sheets?

Water can collect in Exolon® multi UV sheets if they were installed incorrectly, if the sealing is insufficient, or if the sheet is damaged. In addition, condensation can form due to extreme temperature fluctuations or high humidity. Proper edge sealing and correct installation prevent water from getting in.

What can be done to waterproof multiwall sheets?

Sealing tapes, aluminium profiles and silicone sealants can be used to waterproof multiwall Exolon® multi UV sheets. Sealing tapes and vapor-permeable tapes prevent dirt and moisture from getting in. Aluminium profiles hold the edges securely, while silicone is used to seal the transitions between the profiles and the sheets.

What should you use to clean multiwall sheets? How should Exolon multi UV sheets be cleaned?

Whether you use multiwall Exolon® multi UV panels to cover patios, conservatories or greenhouses, you can clean the polycarbonate sheets effectively with mild cleaning agents and soft cleaning tools without damaging the surface.

1. Remove coarse dirt and debris. Before you start cleaning, remove all loose dirt, leaves or debris from the surface of the multiwall sheets to avoid scratches during cleaning. Use a soft brush or broom for this.
2. Prepare the cleaning solution. In a bucket, mix a mild, non-abrasive cleaner (e.g. mild dish soap, soap or a special plastic cleaner) with water. Avoid harsh cleaners or solvents that could damage the surface of the sheet.
3. Clean the Exolon® multi UV sheets. Dip a soft sponge or cloth into the cleaning solution and gently wipe the surface of the Exolon® multi UV multiwall sheets. Be sure to rinse the sponge or cloth regularly to remove dirt and debris and to avoid scratches.
4. Rinse the Exolon® multi UV sheets thoroughly with water to remove the cleaning agent and dirt. Use a garden hose or a bucket of clean water to rinse the multiwall polycarbonate sheets.
5. Dry. Let the Exolon® multi UV sheets air dry, or gently wipe the surface dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
6. Stubborn stains. For stubborn stains or deposits, you can use a soft brush or cloth together with the cleaning solution. However, avoid abrasive cleaners or stiff-bristled brushes, which can scratch the surface of the Exolon® multi UV sheet.
7. Make sure to clean at moderate temperatures and out of direct sunlight, so that the cleaning solution does not evaporate too quickly and the sheet is not damaged.

Are multiwall sheets hail-resistant?

The hail resistance of multiwall Exolon® multi UV sheets depends on the material and the thickness. Exolon® multi UV multiwall polycarbonate sheets are known for their high impact and break resistance, which generally makes them hail-resistant. Exolon® multi UV polycarbonate is a very tough and flexible material that absorbs hail impacts better than some other materials, such as glass or acrylic. This makes it ideal for patio roofing sheets as well as multiwall sheets for conservatories and greenhouses.

It is important to note that the hail resistance of Exolon® multi UV multiwall polycarbonate sheets also depends on their thickness and quality. Thicker sheets generally offer better protection against hail and other impact loads.
If you need hail resistance, Exolon® multi UV multiwall polycarbonate sheets are a good choice thanks to their higher impact resistance and breaking strength. Be sure to choose sheets of suitable thickness and quality to ensure the best possible protection.
